Prevention at Pitt, which is housed in the new Office of Institutional Engagement and Wellbeing, will lead efforts in September for Pitt’s second annual Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The month of activities are designed to support survivors, increase knowledge and awareness, and identify strategies to eliminate sexual violence from campus. Prevention at Pitt will work to engage the entire campus in discussions about consent, healthy relationships, and survivor support.
Participants do not need to register in advance to attend most events, but it's helpful to the planning process. Registration (not required to attend). Unless otherwise noted, events take place at the Prevention at Pitt offices on the 31st floor of the Cathedral of Learning.
Events include:
Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month Resource Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 5, William Pitt Union Plaza (Rain location: WPU Lower Lounge)
Join Prevention at Pitt for a resource fair spotlighting the support and services available to survivors both on campus and across the Pittsburgh community. This is a chance to meet the people and organizations offering care, education, and community for anyone impacted by sexual misconduct.
PAAR Wellness Workshop Series with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, 1-2 p.m. every Friday in September
Self-care and healing can take many forms and involve several different skills, techniques, routines, and supports. Pittsburgh Action Against Rape and Prevention at Pitt are hosting the second installment of this wellness series. The series will give survivors and allies a safe space to learn more about how trauma impacts the body and brain, language for discussing our complex emotions, to take space to learn and practice soothing skills and coping strategies, and most importantly: build community with fellow peers who also are seeking community and support. Topics and activities change on a weekly basis. No registration required
Crafting and Consent, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 8
Join Prevention at Pitt for a relaxed and creative evening focused on consent and community. This event offers students a chance to unwind while engaging in meaningful conversations around consent in a welcoming and supportive space. Stop by to take part in a variety of hands-on activities, including making jewelry, designing buttons, creating collages and even making clay animals. Light refreshments will be available to enjoy while you craft.
Prevention at Pitt Open House, noon-1:30 p.m. Sept. 10
Stop by the Prevention at Pitt Office to pick up awareness building signage for your department, request training, engage in prevention focused activities, learn about the team, and enjoy refreshments.
Swiping Right on Prevention Bingo, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 12
Join Prevention at Pitt for a fun-filled night of dating app bingo. This night will consist of information on dating apps, meaningful conversations surrounding healthy dating and safety and end in a fun game of bingo with prizes. Snacks will be provided.
Terrariums with CARE, noon-2 p.m. Sept. 16
Join Prevention at Pitt to get to know our CARE advocates, Hattie and Callan, We will make terrariums while discussing how we can CARE for ourselves.
Consent is FRIES, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 25
This event will feature a discussion on consent, boundaries and healthy relationships while munching on a French fry bar with all the fixings. Join Prevention at Pitt for Consent is

Stories of Us: An open mic night to honor relationships that have changed us, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 3, C4C Understory CL Basement
An interactive open mic night where participants can share written works about relationships that have impacted them greatly. Whether good or bad or something in between, participants can express their journeys through their art. First-time performers to seasoned veterans are welcome to take the stage for a pre-set amount of time (up to six minutes). Performance slots are limited; Register below to guarantee a performance spot. Others are welcome to speak after registered performers have finished. Sweets and tea will be provided.
