The undergraduate College of Business Administration and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business are now formally the University of Pittsburgh School of Business.
The new identity for the school, which was founded in 1908, reflects a unified brand across undergraduate and graduate programs, stronger alignment with the global recognition of the Pitt name, and a clearer message for prospective students, recruiters and partners, according to an announcement on the school’s website.
The change was made after extensive engagement with alumni, students, faculty, donors, and University leadership, and with the full understanding and support of the Katz family and approval from the Pitt Board of Trustees.
The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business name will remain prominent — featured at the entrance of Mervis Hall and in all materials referencing graduate programs. The graduate school is named for Katz (1913 to 1991), an entrepreneur who founded the gift-wrap manufacturing company Papercraft Corp, after he and wife Agnes donated $10 million in 1987.
The school recently underwent a strategic planning process, during which “we recognized the need for a unified identity that honors our history while enhancing our visibility and positioning our community for future success,” the announcement said.
