If you’ve been on the Pitt Worx page lately on my.pitt.edu, you may have noticed a new category has been added alongside pay, benefits, etc. But for many at Pitt, the Total Rewards Statement remains inactive.
An FAQ from the Office of Human Resources (Pitt log-in required) says that the Total Rewards Statement “provides employees with a comprehensive overview of their total compensation package, including but not limited to salary and benefits. This is designed to increase transparency into wages and benefits and highlight payments for benefits that the University is making on your behalf.”
The launch of the Total Rewards Statement is being completed in grouped phases. Groupings are composed of employees with similar pay cycles, benefits eligibility, and time-off schedules. Currently, the statement is only being provided for staff who are not represented by a union. All other employees who attempt to access this tile will receive a message indicating that they are currently not eligible to access the statement.
Pitt plans to update the Total Rewards Statement twice a year, in January and July. The numbers reported in each category are annual projections based on your current salary and benefit rates that the University was paying at the time that your statement was generated.
The values presented in the statement are pre-tax, so actual take-home amounts will vary.
The name “Total Rewards” may sound familiar to some Pitt staff members. It was first used in 2017 for an Office of Human Resources initiative designed to evaluate the University’s compensation, benefits, rewards and recognition, career development and work-life integration. It included extensive job analysis questionnaires sent to all staff.
The name was abandoned in 2018. It eventually became the compensation modernization project, which completed its second phase in 2023 with the release of a new job catalog and corresponding pay ranges. The final phase, which has not materialized, was supposed to be the development of roadmaps to help identify future potential career pathways throughout the University.
