During the 2025-2026 academic year, the Office of the Provost will confer its 21st annual Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring.

The award recognizes outstanding mentors who have had the greatest impact on students who are seeking research doctorate degrees. Up to four awards will be made each year.

Any current, active faculty member who supervises graduate students pursuing PhD degrees or other research doctoral degrees and who has served as a primary mentor (e.g., as thesis committee advisor) for five or more doctoral students is eligible to be nominated

Nominations are open through Oct. 10 and should be sent electronically to Amanda Godley (vpgodley@pitt.edu), vice provost for graduate studies. Full guidelines for the award are available on the Office of the Provost website.
