Bernard Costello, associate vice chancellor for the Office Of Interdisciplinary Education, Health Sciences, and former dean of the School of Dental Medicine, has accepted a position as senior vice president for health affairs at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., effective in early 2025.

He has been a full-time faculty member at Pitt since 2001 and served as dean from 2018-22. Costello is professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and chief of pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital, where he is the longest-serving surgeon on the cleft-craniofacial team. 

He has served as principal and co-investigator on multiple federally and state-funded research projects focused on craniofacial bone regeneration and bone tissue engineering.
