Marlin Nabors, who has served as the senior student affairs officer at Endicott College in Massachusetts for more than four years, has been selected as the Pitt’s new associate vice provost and dean of students. He will start on Jan. 2.

In his new role, Nabors will oversee the community and inclusion team, the wellness team, and the student engagement and professional development team.

“I am confident that Marlin’s thoughtful and innovative approach to the work of student affairs will propel us toward excellence as we continue to serve students,” Vice Provost of Student Affairs Carla Panzella said in her announcement. She also thanked Lorraine Craven, executive associate dean of student affairs, for her work over the past several months as interim dean of students.

While at Endicott, Nabors helped create a one-stop student concern reporting page for faculty and staff, co-chaired a strategic planning committee focused on student engagement and success, led the creation of a division-wide co-curricular strategy for engaging students and facilitated the launch of five new living-learning communities tied to first-year writing courses.

Nabors has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, including stints at Salem State University in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire University. He has held a wide range of roles and provided oversight to the full spectrum of traditional student services, including student engagement, community service, health and counseling services, community standards and residence life as well as international student services, disability services and a women’s center.

Nabors, a first-generation college graduate, earned a bachelor of science in journalism and sociology from Central Michigan University. He later attended Syracuse University and earned a master’s degree in cultural foundations of education.
