The Eatery wins award for architectural design

The designer of The Eatery in Litchfield Towers won a certificate of merit for PWWG Architects from the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The Eatery, which opened in January, is the largest collegiate dining facility east of the Mississippi, serving more than 8,000 meals daily across 10 distinct, chef-driven dining concepts.

The jurors, who were from AIA Potomac Valley in Maryland, commented: “For a college eatery, it’s one of the best we’ve seen. The logistical planning of phasing and occupancy was as challenging as the design. We appreciate the nods to the influence of the circular towers above.”

The Eatery is managed by Chartwells Higher Education.

Cork & Crust restaurant coming to Oaklander Hotel

A new restaurant is coming to The Oaklander Hotel on Bigelow Boulevard.

Cork & Crust will be run by Kristin Butterworth, a three-time James Beard Foundation Award semifinalist and featured chef at the prestigious James Beard House.

Located on the ground floor of The Oaklander, Cork & Crust will be able to seat 115 people, including outdoor patio seating and bar seating, the Tribune-Review reported. Construction has been underway since June, and the restaurant is expected to open before the end of the year.

The restaurant will focus on Neapolitan-style pizza made in a classic pizza oven and wines sourced from top vendors in California and Europe.

Butterworth previously worked as executive chef in charge of culinary operations at Nemacolin and as executive sous chef at Sea Island Resort in Georgia.

RocketCup Coffee launches Panther roast

RocketCup Coffee, based in western New York, has launched of the Blue & Bold Blend — the only officially licensed University of Pittsburgh coffee blend.

This limited-edition roast is now available online or at the University Store on Fifth.
