Hillman will close May 1-7 as staff move to ground floor; atrium opens May 8

Hillman Library will be closed May 1 to 7 to allow staff to move to the newly renovated ground floor.

The new atrium entrance will be open as of May 8, but the revamped services on the ground floor will not be fully operational until the fall, when a grand opening celebration will be held.

The three-story glass atrium is designed to look like a stack of books. It has a direct sight line to the Cathedral of Learning.

The ground floor has been closed since January 2023. The redone space will eventually have a whole suite of of media production spaces, a technology lab, a digital scholarship lab, along with study and office space.

The ground floor and atrium, along with the center core of the building, were part of the fourth and final phase of the complete renovation of the library, which began in 2017.
