Pitt and the rest of the United States will vote next week in the presidential race, along with Senate, House and local contests.
To encourage students’ civic engagement in Election Day activities, Pitt has told faculty that flexible course engagement is encouraged on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as appropriate.
Adam Lee, vice provost of undergraduate studies, said this is “meant to provide space for students who want to participate in civic engagement activities that would otherwise not be possible with strictly in-person synchronous courses.”
There are three polling places on Pitt’s campus — Posvar Hall, Bellefield Hall and the William Pitt Union — which are managed independently by Allegheny County elections officials. There also will be separate marked entrances for each: One designated for voting and one designated for University business and instruction. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There are a couple of other Election Day activities on the Oakland campus:

The Student Government Board will host an Election Fest from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 on the William Pitt Union Plaza, which will include food, games, therapy dogs and live music.

Bring your “I Voted” sticker to the Center for Creativity Workshop (University Store on Fifth) or the Text & conText Lab (310 Hillman) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Election Day to turn your sticky symbol of civil rights into a durable souvenir. At the Text & conText Lab, use our letterpress to make a small print and combine it with your sticker for a piece of lasting wall art.
