The University Center for International Studies will host an Anti/Democracy Mini Symposium on March 19 to address the growing challenges to democratic ideals in an age of populism, polarization, mis/mal/dis information, and rising authoritarianism.

This event — co-sponsored by the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies; the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Political Science; and the European Studies Center — will explore the interplay between democratic values and anti-democratic forces, highlighting historical and contemporary movements that both support and erode the democratic project.

Randall Halle, director of the European Studies Center, will give opening and closing remarks. Three roundtable discussions will be held throughout the event, which goes from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the School of Education’s Center for Urban Education, 4303 Posvar Hall.
