This year’s Pitt Day of Giving had almost the same number of donors as last year, but raised nearly $900,000 more.

The 11,423 donors — Pitt alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends — contributed more than $3.26 million during the ninth Pitt Day of Giving. Donations came from Pennsylvania and all 49 other states — with New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland rounding out the top five.

Last year, a record-setting 11,473 donors from all 50 U.S. states as well as 25 countries and five continents gave more than $2.4 million.

Several challenges throughout the day brought extra funds to different schools and organizations.

The chancellor’s senior staff kicked in $5,000 after more than 2,380 faculty and staff donated. The final total was 2,496.

Fifteen schools and colleges will split $100,000 after increasing the number of donors to each. The largest increase was to Pitt Law, which was up 73% from last year — from 131 donors to 227.

An all-day competition for the highest number of donors to each Pitt place, experience and more was won by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, which had donations from 469 people.
