On Jan. 28, the Staff Council Executive Committee of Officers approved the following resolution:

The Staff Council of the University of Pittsburgh is an inclusive and representative collection of employees from across all disciplines and programs. Staff Council uses our shared governance platform to amplify staff voices to advocate in support of our University community. 

As such, the University of Pittsburgh Staff Council officers endorse the Student Government Board’s Nov. 18, 2025 resolution in support of our international community members, which was presented at the Dec. 18, 2025 Senate Council meeting. 

We also affirm that all students, post-docs, staff and faculty are entitled to an academic and campus life experience free from discrimination regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship status and other protected classes.

In the spirit of shared governance, we stand in support of the Student Government Board’s ask of the University in their resolution to provide:

1. Protection of the personal information of all members of the campus community and prevention of inappropriate disclosure to external parties.

2. Transparent, accessible and timely updates regarding policy changes and protocols in order to ensure the safety and civil liberties of all members of our campus community.

3. Clear, accessible training for students, post-docs, staff and faculty on proper protocol to ensure due process and safety.

4. Open and continuously updated channels of communication to inform students, post-docs, staff and faculty of their civil protections amidst changes in federal, state, and University policy.

We recognize that the Student Government Board resolution aligns with our shared commitment to support all members of our community and the University’s commitment to “cultivate belonging and a welcoming culture” reflected in the Plan for Pitt 2028.

The Staff Council officers commend the Student Government Board for their leadership on this important issue and stand ready to collaborate on their resolution’s successful implementation.
