Staff Council at its Feb. 18 meeting passed on news about an upcoming public meeting of the University’s LGBTQIA+ Steering Committee, and announced plans for its own annual Spring Assembly.

The LGBTQIA+ Steering Committee will hold a public “listening session” and discussion from 3 to 5 p.m. March 30. More details are to come in an official announcement.

The committee was announced in November 2023. The initial goals of the committee were to do a review of current practices, initiatives and recommendations that have already been made, including those of the LGBTQ Task Force, co-chair Angie Jack, of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Wellbeing, said at the time.  

The new committee was designed to provide advice and counsel to Chancellor Joan Gabel and senior administrators on LGBTQIA+ issues.

Spring Assembly

Staff Council’s Spring Assembly, the group's largest annual professional development activity, is set for 10 a.m. to noon May 27, in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room. It will focus this year on navigating change in the workplace from an interpersonal standpoint.

Staff Council members plan to undertake a “safety crawl” of the campus on May 5, looking at points that have received or may need improvement. The group’s next public meeting is March 18.
