Fall Safety Fair will feature fire safety demonstrations, new K-9 dog and more

The Fall Safety Fair is quickly approaching, with activities planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 on the Bigelow Street lawns outside the William Pitt Union, including an appearance by Harley, the Pitt Police’s new K-9 dog.

The day will begin with hands-on demonstrations on how to properly use a fire extinguisher and put out a real fire. Fire safety demonstrations will be given from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The main safety fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is a collaborative effort by the Student Government Board and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety to educate students, faculty and staff about safety resources and healthy habits at Pitt.

More than 20 student organizations, University departments, and local groups will participate to share self-defense tips, public transportation guidelines, healthy nutritional habits, safe environmental practices, and more.

No registration is required, and free pizza, snacks, and drinks will be available. Students can enter for a chance to win a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and set of Generation 2 Apple AirPods!

Some of the other participating organizations include the Nursing Student Association, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Allegheny County Health Department, Student Health Service, University Counseling Center, POGOH, and many others.

In the event of inclement weather, the fair will move to the William Pitt Union Ballroom.
