New winter tech workshops available from Pitt IT

Pitt IT is expanding training opportunities to include a series of technology workshops, which will take place between the fall and spring Faculty & Staff Development Program presented by Human Resources.

The winter workshop sessions include five new topics:

  • Box Basics: Getting Started with Cloud Collaboration

  • DocuSign Next Steps: Enhancing Digital Agreements with eSignature Service

  • LabArchives: Making the Switch to Electronic Research Notebooks

  • Microsoft Teams: Communicate and Collaborate Like Never Before

  • Visual Analytics: Getting Started with Data-Informed Decision Making

Training workshops

All workshops take place at Bellefield Hall and are free for Pitt faculty and staff. Advance registration is required at technology.pitt.edu/training.

Box Basics: Getting Started with Cloud Collaboration — Learn how to access, edit, store, share and comment on files online from anywhere in the world. Plus, discover the benefits provided by useful Box apps, like Box Edit and Box Drive.

DocuSign Basics: Gather eSignatures and Manage Document Workflow — This hands-on introductory session will teach participants how to electronically send, sign and manage documents using the University's eSignature Service (DocuSign).

This session provides you with the knowledge and tools needed to protect yourself — and the University — from cyberthreats

LabArchives: Making the Switch to Electronic Research Notebooks — Learn how LabArchives Professional Edition — available to Pitt students, faculty and staff at no charge — can help organize, manage, share and store research data that is secure and compliant in your labs and groups. Topics include getting started, adding and managing data, sharing data and user access, widgets, tools, and other commonly used features.

Microsoft Excel 2019: Unleash the Power of PivotTables — Explore how to use Microsoft Excel Charts and the PivotTables 2019 feature to concisely summarize and manage large amounts of data for easy reporting and analysis. Manage subtotals and grand totals, group data, apply conditional formatting for data subsets, and create macros.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2019: Punch Up Your Presentation — A dynamic presentation begins with sound fundamentals. Learn how to format slides, use themes, insert and edit pictures, apply transitions, add animation, and more.

Microsoft Teams: Communicate and Collaborate Like Never Before — This introductory session demonstrates how faculty, students, staff and colleagues can improve communication and collaboration using Microsoft Teams. Discover ways to leverage chat, meetings, video conferencing, file storage, collaboration tools, and third-party plugins through this powerful app integrated with Microsoft Office.

Qualtrics Basics: Create Your Own Online Surveys — Learn how to create a customer satisfaction survey in this hands-on workshop designed for those with little to no experience. Topics include question types, blocks, distribution options, reporting and more.

Qualtrics Next Steps: Do More with Online Surveys — Participants in this hands-on session will use Qualtrics to create a meeting registration survey. Topics include question validation, display logic, email triggers, contact list triggers, quotas, survey flow and more.

Visual Analytics: Getting Started with Data-Informed Decision Making — This workshop provides manager, directors and others in leadership roles with a tour of resources available for growing the analytics efforts of their teams. Learn what visual analytics are, the data structures needed to support them, and how to leverage findings to support strategic objectives and decision making.
