Murrell chosen for 2021 Sheth Distinguished Faculty Award

The 2021 winners of the Sheth International Achievement Awards will be presented on Oct. 4 to:

  • Audrey J. Murrell, winner of the 2021 Sheth Distinguished Faculty Award for International Achievement 

  • Ihsan Ayyub Qazi, SCI '10, winner of the 2021 Sheth International Young Alumni Achievement Award

The Sheth Distinguished Faculty Award for International Achievement recognizes a current Pitt faculty member’s lifetime contributions to furthering international education.

Murrell is a professor of business administration at the Katz Graduate School of Business, and also teaches in the Department of Psychology in the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. In her roles as former director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership, former interim dean of the University Honors College, and former associate dean of the College of Business Administration, Murrell has “greatly expanded the scope, depth and impact of global programming at the University of Pittsburgh, inspiring more Pitt Business and University Honors College students to study abroad than ever before,” according to the award statement.

The Sheth International Young Alumni Achievement Award acknowledges a Pitt alumnus who entered Pitt on a student visa, earned a degree in the last 15 years, and has made contributions to the international community through a professional achievement.

Qazi’s most recent research focuses on designing technologies and educational interventions for bridging the digital divides between developed and developing regions, which includes divides in connectivity, access, and affordability across served and underserved areas, gender, age, persons with disabilities, and digital literacy and skills, according to the award statement.

He currently is associate professor of computer science and a senior research fellow at the Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre, both at Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan.
