Browning nominated for second term as Trustees chair

Doug Browning was nominated for a second one-year term as chair of Pitt’s Board of Trustees by the Governance and Nominating committee on June 6.

Browning, a 1971 political science graduate of Pitt and principal in the independent consulting company DM Browning & Associates LLC, took over as chair last summer just as the board was starting a search for a new chancellor to replace Patrick Gallagher.

The Board of Trustees limits chairpersons to five one-year terms. The full board will vote at its June 23 meeting on Browning’s nomination and the others approved by the committee.

Committee chair David Chavern, president and CEO, Consumer Brands Association, thanked Browning, the board’s first Black chair, for “incredible service during an important time and transition for the University.”

The committee also nominated:

  • Louis Cestello, regional president for Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania, PNC Bank, for re-election as vice chair for a third one-year term.

  • Cestello, Chavern and Deborah Gillotti, chief operating officer, nVoq, Inc., for re-election as term trustees for 2023-27.

  • Robert Agbede, chairman, Chester Group, Inc., for re-election as a special trustee for 2023-27.

  • Michael Wells, chairman and CEO, Fidelis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., for re-election as an alumni trustee for 2023-27.

  • Emil Spadafore, partner, Spadafore Prather Janes, for election as a special trustee representing Pitt–Titusville for 2022-26.

  • David Tilstone, senior managing director, FODIS, and senior business developer officer at Athena, for election as a special trustee representing Pitt–Greensburg for 2022-26

  • Wells and Eva Tansky Blum, Retired Executive Vice President and Director of Community Affairs, PNC Bank, for re-election as University directors to the UPMC Board of Directors for the Class of 2026.
