Grants available for sustainability research and education

Pitt faculty and students who want to engage in sustainability research, education and outreach can apply for five funding opportunities through the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation

For faculty

John C. Mascaro faculty programs in sustainability: The John C. Mascaro faculty program is designed to enhance the university’s mission of interdisciplinary excellence in research and education. Faculty members from all schools/disciplines across Pitt are encouraged to apply while seeking the engagement level that is most appropriate for them. All faculty are able to apply as faculty fellows, scholars or lecturers in sustainability. Apply here by Oct. 25.

Sustainability Communications Training Grant: This training is designed to help Pitt faculty with research interests and expertise in sustainability to develop more effective communications skills. Training foci will include the ability to make complex and/or technical issues relevant and accessible to non-technical audiences, including the general public and media, as well as industry, government, and nonprofit partners.  Up to 15 faculty will be selected for the training which will take place in spring 2020. Research Seed Grant Program in Sustainability (all disciplines): MCSI is requesting faculty grant proposals for interdisciplinary sustainability education and research initiatives. The goals of the grants are: (1) catalyze the formation of convergent research teams focused on sustainability and associated solutions; (2) fund projects capable of obtaining external funding upon completion; and (3) enhance Pitt’s national recognition in sustainability and the visibility of interdisciplinary sustainability research and education on campus. For students

Conference Grants Program: These funds support undergraduate and graduate student participation at conferences.  Students must be accepted to present an oral or poster presentation. Funds will be allocated based on their relevance to the goals of the Mascaro Center and the broadest impact.  Apply here by Sept. 20.

Student Groups Program Grant: These funds are intended to support student groups who are initiating programs, activities or events that cover the broad topics of sustainability and help to advance Pitt’s Sustainability Plan. Apply here for rolling award decisions with monthly review until all funds are expended
