Earn a Tree Tender certification through Tree Pittsburgh

Pitt staff, faculty, and students can learn basic tree care and help Oakland's tree canopy by earning a Tree Tender certification through Tree Pittsburgh.

The Office of Engagement & Community Affairs, Student Office of Sustainability, Office of Sustainability, and Oakland Planning and Development Corporation are collaborating with Tree Pittsburgh on the project.

The virtual Tree Tenders training webinar will be from 9 a.m. to 2 pm. Jan. 28. Register here.

The Tree Tenders course teaches all about trees and how to become an advocate for them in your neighborhood. Specifically, attendees learn about urban forestry practices, tree biology and health, basic tree identification, proper pruning and maintenance, and how to lead your community in organizing tree plantings and tree care.

Those who can’t attend the live Zoom session, can watch a recording. All participants will have to complete an online quiz following the lecture in order to become a certified Tree Tender.

Pitt staff, faculty and students who become certified will be asked to volunteer time for tree care and tree plantings throughout Oakland over the course of a year.
